St. Basil The Great Ukrainian Catholic Church

This church is less than a kilometre from my home, yet I haven’t seen it up close despite living nearby for almost a decade. It’s a towering structure built in 1967, described as a modern version of the Byzantine style church. The original cost was $1.5 million, which is approximately $14 million in 2026 dollars.

There was an older man sitting outside on the stone wall surrounding the church, smoking a cigarette. I said hello and we talked for at least half an hour. His name was Rob and he was likely in his 60s, although he looked much older from the smoking. One of my favourite things about photography are the conversations with strangers. Sometimes, they get into their past but I can never quite tell if their stories are true or not. I think people just need someone to talk to. Either way, I enjoy listening.
